GDRFA Rejected the Family Visa Application. The Documents Were All There. The Translations Were Not.

The sponsor had everything ready. Marriage certificate from Pakistan — attested through the full chain. Birth certificates for two children. Employment contract. Tenancy contract. He submitted the family visa application to GDRFA. It was returned within a week.

The rejection did not say the documents were fake or incomplete. It said the translations were not acceptable.

What happened

The sponsor had his marriage certificate translated before getting the MOFA attestation sticker. When MOFA added the hologram sticker to the original document, the translation no longer matched the document’s current state. GDRFA compared the physical document to the translation, found the mismatch, and returned the application.

The children’s birth certificates had a different problem. They were translated into English only. GDRFA requires Arabic translations for family visa processing. The English translations were valid documents but not valid for this specific submission.

Two documents. Two different problems. Both preventable.

Common GDRFA family visa rejection reasons

The order matters

This is where most family visa applications fail. The correct sequence is:

1. Attest the original document through the full chain (home country authority → embassy or apostille → MOFA)
2. Translate after attestation is complete — the translation must reflect every stamp on the document
3. Submit the original + translation together to GDRFA

Translating before attestation is the single most common mistake. The translation gets rejected because it does not show stamps that were added after the translation was done. You then pay for a second translation. The cost doubles and the timeline extends by weeks.

What we check before you submit

When a client sends documents for a family visa translation, we check:

• Is the attestation chain complete? If not, we tell the client what steps remain before translation should happen
• Are all stamps and stickers present on the document? If the MOFA hologram sticker is missing, we flag it
• Is Arabic translation required? For GDRFA family visa, the answer is always yes
• Does the name on the document match the passport? If not, the client needs to resolve the mismatch first
• Are all dependents’ documents included? Missing a child’s birth certificate means a returned application

We do this check before payment. If your documents are not ready for translation, we tell you what needs to happen first — so you do not pay for a translation that will be rejected.

Documents needed for a GDRFA family visa

For a spouse visa:

• Marriage certificate — translated into Arabic, MOJ-certified, fully attested
• Passport copies of sponsor and spouse
• Sponsor’s employment contract or salary certificate
• Tenancy contract (Ejari or equivalent)
• Sponsor’s Emirates ID

For each child:

• Birth certificate — translated into Arabic, MOJ-certified, fully attested
• Passport copy
• Vaccination records (if required by the medical fitness assessment)

For Pakistani documents specifically: the attestation chain is HEC/Union Council → MOFA Pakistan → UAE Embassy → UAE MOFA. Pakistan is not a Hague Convention member, so the apostille shortcut does not apply.
