Indian Degree Certificate Translation for UAE Work Permit: Problem Solved
Indian professionals in the UAE need MOJ-certified Arabic translation of their degree for MOHRE work permits. Here's exactly what that means, what it looks like, and how fast it gets done.
An Indian professional came to us with an MBA degree from Pondicherry University. Needed it translated for a UAE work permit through MOHRE. The question before paying: “This is for visa apply and MOHRE certified one right? With official stamp and translator license number?”
The answer is yes. Here is exactly what that means.

What MOHRE actually needs from your Indian degree
MOHRE does not accept a photocopy of your degree with an informal translation. What they need is an MOJ-certified Arabic translation — a document produced by a translator registered with the UAE Ministry of Justice, carrying two things your client was right to ask about:
- Official stamp — the legal translator’s MOJ-registered seal
- Translator license number — the MOJ registration number (#701 in our case) printed on the document
This combination is what makes the translation legally valid in the UAE. Without it, MOHRE will reject the submission during the work permit application review.
The order matters: attestation before translation
This is where most people waste time and money. The correct sequence is:
1 → MEA apostille in India India is a Hague Convention member. Indian documents are apostilled through the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) or an authorised agency. This goes on the original document first.
2 → UAE MOFA attestation (if required for your specific case) Some MOHRE applications require UAE MOFA attestation after the MEA apostille. Not always — check your specific work permit type.
3 → MOJ translation in UAE Only after attestation is complete do you bring the document for MOJ Arabic translation. The reason: the translation must reflect the document in its fully attested state — including all stamps and endorsements. If you translate first and attest after, the Arabic version won’t show the attestation details and will be rejected.
What the translated degree looks like
The MOJ-certified Arabic translation of an Indian degree includes:
- Full translation of the degree text into Arabic — university name, degree title, graduate name, date, honours or class designation
- Translation of any printed institutional text (e.g., “Distance Education”, “Twinning Programme”)
- Translator’s Arabic certification statement
- MOJ license stamp and number
- Date of translation
For a Pondicherry University MBA in Finance, the translation includes the exact designation — “ماجستير إدارة الأعمال في التمويل” — along with the university’s full Arabic name and all issued details.
Distance education and twinning programme degrees
A common question we get on Indian MBAs specifically: will MOHRE accept degrees issued under a Distance Education or Twinning Programme?
The translation will accurately reflect what is printed on the degree — including any Distance Education designation. Whether MOHRE accepts the underlying qualification is a separate question from translation. The translation itself will always be accurate and MOJ-certified. If you are unsure whether your specific qualification is recognised by MOHRE, check with your employer’s PRO or MOHRE directly before ordering translation.
