MOJ Going Digital UAE: What It Means for Translation

UAE Ministry of Justice is digitising translation services. Digital verification, electronic stamps, and what changes when getting documents translated.

The physical stamp and signature have been the mark of a certified translation in the UAE for decades. A translator’s rubber stamp, wet ink signature, and license number on the page. That’s changing. The MOJ is moving toward digital verification, and it affects how you get, send, and use translated documents.

What’s changing

The UAE Ministry of Justice is part of the broader government digitisation push. For translation, this means:

  • Direct translator certification. The operative point is that the translation is certified by the licensed translator and bears the required MOJ stamp and signature.
  • Electronic timestamps. Digital certification includes the exact date and time of certification, harder to backdate than a physical stamp.
  • Online submission. Translators can submit and certify translations through the MOJ digital platform rather than physically stamping paper.
  • Fraud reduction. Digital verification makes it much harder to forge MOJ stamps: a problem that has affected the industry.

What hasn’t changed

The fundamentals remain the same:

  • Only MOJ-licensed translators can certify legal translations for government use
  • The translator’s name, license number, and certification appear on every translation
  • You can still verify any translation by calling the MOJ Hotline (800 333333)
  • Physical stamps remain accepted alongside digital verification

What this means for you

Faster delivery. Digital certification means your translated document can be certified and delivered electronically. No need to pick up a physical copy unless the receiving entity specifically requires one.

Easier verification. If a bank or government counter questions your translation, they can verify the translator’s licence and inspect the certification block. This avoids reliance on generic copy claims.

Same quality requirement. Digital doesn’t mean automated. A human translator still reads your document, translates it, and certifies it. The digital part is the verification infrastructure, not the translation process.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about our translation services.

Is MOJ translation going fully digital in UAE?

The UAE Ministry of Justice is progressively digitising its services, including translation certification. Digital verification codes and electronic stamps are being introduced alongside traditional physical stamps. The transition is gradual, physical stamps remain accepted, and many government entities still require them. The direction is clear, but the timeline for full digital adoption varies by entity.

Will digital MOJ translations be accepted by government entities?

Acceptance is expanding but not yet universal. Courts and MOHRE are increasingly accepting digitally verified translations. Some entities (particularly at the counter level) still request physical stamps. During the transition period, having both a digital verification code and a physical stamp is the safest approach. Ask the receiving entity about their current acceptance policy.

How do I verify a digital MOJ translation?

What matters in practice is that the translation is issued by the licensed translator and carries the required MOJ certification. If you need to confirm the license, you can check the translator's license details through official MOJ channels.
