Salary Certificate in Arabic: What UAE Banks Require

Your bank needs your salary certificate in Arabic for a loan or credit card application. HR only has the English version. How to handle it.

You’re applying for a personal loan. Or a credit card with a higher limit. Or a mortgage. The bank asks for a salary certificate. You go to HR, get the letter, bring it to the bank. The officer looks at it and says: “We need this in Arabic.”

Your HR department has never produced an Arabic salary certificate. They don’t have an Arabic template. They look at you like you’re asking them to write it in Mandarin.

Why some banks want Arabic

Not all banks require Arabic salary certificates. Many branches accept English without any issue. But you’re more likely to hit this requirement with:

  • Islamic banking products. Murabaha, Ijara, and other Sharia-compliant financial products often require Arabic documentation as part of the compliance process.
  • Older or more traditional bank branches. Some branches, especially outside Dubai Marina, JLT, and business hubs, have processing teams that work primarily in Arabic.
  • Mortgage applications. Property financing involves DLD (Dubai Land Department), which operates in Arabic. Banks want all supporting documents in Arabic to match the DLD filing.
  • Large credit limits. Higher-value credit applications sometimes trigger additional documentation requirements, including Arabic versions.

The simple fix

You don’t need HR to create an Arabic certificate from scratch. Get your English salary certificate certified translated into Arabic. The translation mirrors the original, salary amount, position, employment dates, company details, in Arabic with a translator’s certification stamp.

For banking purposes, a certified translation is sufficient. You don’t need MOJ certification. Banks are private institutions, not government entities. The certified stamp confirms the Arabic accurately reflects the English original.

Turnaround is fast. A standard salary certificate is a one-page document. Translation usually takes a few hours.

What if the bank wants it issued by the company?

Some banks specifically ask for a salary certificate “issued by the employer in Arabic.” This is different from a translation. If your company can’t produce one in Arabic, explain that your company’s official language is English and provide the certified translation alongside the original.

Most banks accept this. The translated version carries the original company details, and the certification confirms authenticity. If the bank officer still insists on a company-issued Arabic version, ask to speak with a supervisor. The policy is usually more flexible than the counter staff realizes.

Other bank documents that might need Arabic

While you’re at it, check if the bank needs any other documents in Arabic. Common requests include:

  • Guarantee letters from a personal guarantor
  • Employment contracts (especially for mortgage applications)
  • Proof of address letters
  • Company trade license copies (for self-employed applicants)

If you miss an Arabic notification from your bank, like a KYC update SMS causing an account freeze, translate it quickly. Acting fast can save you weeks of disruption.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about our translation services.

Do UAE banks require salary certificates in Arabic?

Some do, some don't. Many UAE banks accept English salary certificates. However, certain branches, especially for personal loans, mortgages, and credit card limit increases, may require an Arabic version. Islamic banking products are more likely to require Arabic documentation. Check with your specific branch before visiting.

Does a salary certificate translation need MOJ certification for banking?

No. Banks are private institutions, not government entities. A certified translation is sufficient for banking purposes. You don't need the MOJ stamp unless the salary certificate is being submitted to a court or government entity as part of a legal proceeding.

Can my company issue the salary certificate in Arabic directly?

Some companies with Arabic-speaking HR departments can issue bilingual salary certificates. If your company can do this, it saves you the translation step. But many international companies and free zone companies only produce English documents. In that case, a certified translation is the solution.
