English Driving Licence for Dubai RTA: No Translation
Dubai RTA accepts an English driving licence as-is for language purposes. Do not pay for Arabic translation; check eligibility and other requirements.
The short answer
If your driving licence is in English, Dubai RTA accepts it as-is for language purposes. You do not need to translate it into Arabic.
Do not pay a translation company simply because the licence was issued outside the UAE. English is the important point here: there is no language problem for a translator to solve.
What the RTA language rule means
Dubai RTA’s driver handbook states that a licence not written in Arabic or English must be legally translated. An English licence is already inside that accepted language pair, so translation is unnecessary.
RTA’s online exchange service separately lists the documents and any translation requirement for each exchange route. Check the current service for your issuing country before applying:
“No translation” does not mean “automatic approval”
An English licence needs no translation, but RTA still controls whether it can be exchanged or used for the application you are making.
You may still need to satisfy requirements concerning:
- The country that issued the licence.
- Your nationality, where the exchange route makes it relevant.
- Whether the licence is valid.
- Your Emirates ID, eye test and other documents.
- Whether you qualify for direct exchange or must follow a driving-school route.
The point is narrow but important: do not add an Arabic translation when the licence is already in English.
What if the licence is bilingual?
If the card contains English and another language, send clear photos of the front and back for a free check. If all material RTA needs is clearly shown in English, we will not sell you translation.
If important categories, restrictions or validity information appear only in another language, we will identify that before quoting.
