No — MOFA has not been confirmed
Do not order MOFA because somebody online said it is “usually needed.” Ask the receiving court, ministry, embassy, employer, bank, university or other entity directly.
If they confirm MOFA is required, follow the sequence above. If they do not require it, you have avoided an unnecessary attestation step.
Why translation comes last
A legal translation should reflect the final document presented for use. MOFA can add visible material to the original, including a sticker, stamp, reference or annotation.
If translation is completed before that material exists, the translation may no longer match the fully attested original. It may have to be updated or issued again.
The safe sequence is simple: confirmed requirement → MOFA → translation.
If you already translated before MOFA
Do not assume the earlier translation is unusable, but do not submit it without checking either. Send us:
- The complete MOFA-attested original.
- Every page, including reverse sides with stamps or stickers.
- The translation already produced.
- The name of the receiving authority or entity.
We will compare the two and tell you whether the translation can be updated or needs to be reissued.

Should MOFA come before or after legal translation?

How do I know whether MOFA is required?
Treat MOFA as required only when the court, ministry, embassy, employer, bank, university or other receiving entity has included it in its requirements. If nobody has confirmed it, ask the receiving entity before paying for attestation.
Why should translation wait until after MOFA?
MOFA adds a sticker, stamp or other visible attestation to the original document. The legal translation should reflect the final document, including relevant stamps and annotations. Translating too early can leave the translation incomplete.
What if I already translated the document before MOFA?
Send us the completed MOFA-attested original and the earlier translation. The translation may need to be updated or reissued so it matches the final document. We will check before quoting.
Does MOFA confirm that a translation is accurate?
No. MOFA attestation and legal translation are separate services. MOFA concerns the authenticity of signatures and seals on the document; a legal translator is responsible for translating its content.
