What Embassy NOLs Cover

Marriage NOL

Some nationalities need their embassy’s no-objection before registering a marriage in the UAE. Dubai Courts and other marriage registration authorities need the letter in Arabic. The NOL confirms that:

Visa NOL

For specific visa categories, GDRFA may request an embassy letter confirming the applicant’s status. This is more common for nationalities from countries with bilateral agreements or specific security clearance requirements.

The embassy letter goes to GDRFA as part of the visa file. If the file enters manual review, the processing officer may request Arabic translation of any English documents.

Nationality Renunciation or Confirmation

If an applicant for UAE citizenship or a specific residency category needs to confirm their nationality status, the embassy issues a letter confirming citizenship, renunciation, or non-objection to acquiring another nationality.

This letter goes to ICP or GDRFA. Arabic translation is required.

When Translation Is Not Needed

Not every embassy letter needs Arabic translation:

• Embassy letters submitted to another foreign embassy (e.g., your embassy’s NOL submitted to your spouse’s embassy) — English is accepted between embassies
• Embassy letters for private company HR files — the company determines the language requirement
• Embassy letters for international school admission — most international schools in the UAE accept English
• Embassy letters for bank account opening — most banks accept English embassy correspondence

The Translation

Embassy NOLs are short documents — typically one page with the embassy letterhead, the body text, the reference number, the date, and the official seal.

The Arabic translation must include:

• The embassy’s full official name in Arabic
• The reference number and date
• The body text translated accurately — the specific “no objection” statement must be clear
• A note that the original carries the embassy’s official seal
• The signatory’s name and title

The MOJ-certified translation of the embassy letter carries the translator’s stamp alongside the embassy’s seal reference. The combination of the embassy’s authority and the MOJ certification satisfies UAE government requirements.
