If your employer offers a “sales visa” because your degree attestation is delayed, treat it as a document-risk question, not just an HR shortcut. The issue is not only whether the employer can submit a different work-permit category. The issue is what job title, salary, basic salary, contract language, and amendment promise will be recorded in the official file.
This post comes from an April 2026 r/dubai thread where an applicant said the employer wanted to issue a sales visa while degree attestation was still in process. Commenters were divided. Some focused on daily life: the person could still work. Others pointed to the longer paper trail: profession, contract, grace period, and future visa changes.
The practical answer is this: do not sign blind. Ask for the exact Arabic MOHRE offer or contract, the work-permit category, the salary split, and the written plan for amendment once the attested degree is ready.
Why Employers Suggest This Route
Degree attestation can delay a work-permit file. A foreign degree may need home-country authentication, UAE embassy legalisation where applicable, UAE MOFA attestation, and then MOJ-certified degree translation if the receiving authority needs Arabic or a certified version.
When the start date is close, an employer may look for a category that does not require the same academic document at submission. In the Reddit scenario, the proposed workaround was a sales-related profession rather than the qualification-linked role the applicant expected.
That can sound harmless. The employee gets a visa, starts work, and waits for the degree chain to finish. But UAE employment records are documents, not vibes. The official role, salary, and contract terms can be reused later by MOHRE, immigration, banks, landlords, Golden Visa reviewers, or a future employer.

What MOHRE Publishes About Skill Levels
MOHRE’s service page for recruiting a worker from overseas links required academic certificates to skill level. It lists bachelor’s degree or higher for skill levels 1 and 2, a diploma for levels 3 and 4, high school for level 5, and no certificate requirement for levels 6 to 9. It also says workers below AED 4,000 monthly salary are not classified as skilled workers.
That is why a workaround can change the paper story. If your real role depends on a degree, but the employer files you under a lower or different occupational category, the application may avoid one document problem while creating another.
This is not always illegal or automatically harmful. Some employers amend the profession later once the attested degree arrives. The risk is that the amendment never happens, or that the written contract does not match the verbal promise.
Before accepting, ask the PRO for:
- The exact MOHRE profession title being submitted
- The skill level attached to that title
- Whether the attested degree will be uploaded later
- Whether a work-permit or contract modification will be filed
- Who pays for amendment or reclassification fees
- Whether the offer letter and Arabic contract will show the real role or the temporary role
If the answer is “don’t worry,” ask for it in writing.
The Arabic Contract Is the Anchor
The most important document is not the WhatsApp reassurance from HR. It is the Arabic MOHRE contract or offer file.
Read it before signing. If you do not read Arabic, get it translated. Compare it against the English offer and the job you actually accepted.
Check these lines:
- Job title and department
- Basic salary
- Allowances and total monthly salary
- Contract type and start date
- Probation period
- Notice period
- Duties or role description
- Any amendment promise after attestation
The MOHRE contract and offer-letter mismatch pattern is common: the English offer says one thing, the Arabic contract records another. A sales-visa workaround makes that gap more likely because HR may treat the temporary title as paperwork while the employee treats the English offer as reality.
If a dispute later goes to MOHRE or Labour Court, the Arabic record matters. Keep a translated copy with your signed documents.
Watch the Basic Salary Line
The Reddit thread also raised a second risk: salary structure. The profession title may feel like the visible problem, but the basic salary line can affect money later.

- Original offer basic salary
- Proposed MOHRE contract basic salary
- Allowances

Degree Attestation Delay: What to Fix Separately
Do not let the workaround distract from the original degree issue. The degree chain still needs to be completed if your real role, future promotion, professional licence, or Golden Visa plan depends on it.
The usual checks are:
- Is the degree certificate itself being attested, not only the transcript?
- Is the home-country authority step complete?
- Is the UAE embassy or consulate step required for that issuing country?
- Is the UAE MOFA proof visible and verifiable?
- Does the degree name match the passport spelling?
- Does the translation capture stamps, seals, and the qualification title?

If the degree is not in Arabic or English, translation may be part of the fix. If the issue is missing MOFA or the wrong document, translation cannot repair the chain. Start with the chain, then translate the correct document.
Questions to Ask Before Agreeing
Use these questions before you accept any temporary profession route:
- What exact profession will be printed in the MOHRE system?
- Does the Arabic contract show my real role or the temporary title?
- Will my salary split change?
- Will the degree be added after attestation?
- Will the employer file a work-permit modification later?
- Who pays for that modification?
- Does this affect professional licensing, Golden Visa planning, or family sponsorship?
- Can I receive the answer in writing before signing?
The employer may have a reasonable operational reason. You still need a clean document record.
When the Workaround Is Less Risky
It is less risky when the employer gives a written explanation, keeps the same basic salary and benefits, gives a clear amendment date, and allows you to review the Arabic contract before signing.
It is also less risky when your real role does not depend on a regulated title. A generic sales or administrative title may not matter much for a short-term private-sector role. It matters more when you are an engineer, healthcare professional, teacher, accountant, legal consultant, or someone planning a skilled-professional Golden Visa.

When to Slow Down
Slow down if HR refuses to share the Arabic contract, says the title does not matter, changes the salary structure, or promises a later amendment without writing. Also slow down if the job is regulated or if your future plans depend on a precise professional classification.
If the employer has already issued the offer, translate the MOHRE offer letter and compare it with the English version. If the contract has already been issued, translate the contract before signing.
The cost of checking the document is small compared with being stuck with the wrong official role for a year.
