The UAE marriage contract (عقد الزواج) is the official Arabic record of a marriage concluded in the UAE. This page explains what it is, who issues it, how the Arabic layout reads, and when English is needed. It does not own the marriage-certificate translation head term.
What a UAE marriage contract is
عقد الزواج records the spouses, the date and place of the marriage, witness details, and dowry (mahr) terms where they apply. Courts, banks, and embassies treat it as proof of marital status. It is not the same document as a foreign marriage certificate brought into the UAE for attestation.
Who issues it
UAE marriages are concluded through the competent court or authorised marriage officiant for that emirate. The issued contract is the stamped Arabic original. Confirm current filing steps with the relevant court or personal-status service before you rely on any third-party summary.
Arabic layout: fields you will see
Typical contracts show: full names of both spouses, nationality and ID numbers, date and place of marriage, names of witnesses, dowry terms, and the seal or stamp of the issuing authority. Every stamp and handwritten note on the page should appear in the translation.
When it needs English
Banks, embassies, schools, and some immigration or sponsorship files ask for an English copy of an Arabic عقد الزواج. The receiving body decides. For the marriage-certificate translation service page, see marriage certificate translation.
How to order a translation
Send a clear photo or PDF of the contract. We confirm the language pair and the price before payment. Arabic–English translations are signed by an MOJ-licensed legal translator. We do not register marriages or decide whether a bank or embassy will accept the file.
