What Is a Nikah Nama?

Nikah Nama vs NADRA Marriage Certificate

NADRA (National Database and Registration Authority) issues a computerized marriage certificate. It contains the same information as Nikah Nama but in typed format registered in Pakistan’s national database. NADRA certificate is easier to read and process. However, some UAE entities specifically request the original Nikah Nama because it is the primary Islamic marriage document.

Pakistan’s Attestation Status: NOT a Hague Member

Critical Fact: Pakistan is NOT a member of the Hague Apostille Convention. This means your Nikah Nama cannot use the simplified apostille process. It requires the complete embassy attestation chain: a longer, more complex procedure than Hague member countries.
