A personal status certificate, often called an ishhad, is a formal court statement issued by the Dubai Courts family and personal status section. It records a declaration made before the court, for example the relationship between a parent and a child, a guardianship arrangement, a sole custody statement, or a confirmation of marital status.

These certificates are issued in Arabic, usually as a single page carrying the court emblem, a reference number, a barcode, a QR verification code and the electronic signature of the issuing judge or notary. Embassies, schools abroad, foreign civil registries and immigration offices often ask for an English version before they will rely on it.

Because the wording is legal and sometimes concerns children, we translate it literally, keep every party label in place, and do not summarise or paraphrase the court statement. Names follow the passports you send.

How to recognise a Dubai Courts personal status certificate

  • The Government of Dubai and Dubai Courts emblems at the top, with the words personal status or ishhad in Arabic.
  • A barcode and QR code for online verification, plus a certificate or request reference.
  • A short declaration paragraph naming the parties and their identity documents.
  • The name and electronic signature of the judge or notary, and a fee receipt line at the bottom.

What to send

  • The full certificate, or the PDF downloaded from the Dubai Courts portal.
  • Passport copies or exact spellings for each person named.
  • The country or office that will receive the translation, and any format it requests.
  • Any related court judgment or annex, so we can tell you if it changes the price.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about our translation services.

How much does it cost to translate a Dubai Courts personal status certificate?

The standard price is AED 120 for one certificate page, translated from Arabic into English by an MOJ-licensed legal translator and delivered as a stamped PDF. Express and urgent timing are not priced here; ask on WhatsApp and we confirm any amount before you pay.

What is an ishhad from the Dubai Courts?

It is a court-issued statement that records a declaration about personal status, such as parentage, guardianship, custody or marital status. The exact wording depends on the request filed with the court.

Is the translation literal?

Yes. We keep the declaration word for word in English, including the reference, the identity document labels and the judge or notary line. Nothing is shortened or reworded.

Do you also translate the court judgment behind the certificate?

Judgments and longer case files are priced separately after review, because they run to several pages. Send them on WhatsApp with the certificate.

Will an embassy or foreign registry accept it?

The receiving authority makes the final acceptance decision. Some also ask for legalisation or apostille steps, which are separate and not included. Send its instructions so we can check the format.
