Why chat screenshots need a legal translation

OnlineTranslation.ae is an independent service partner. Arabic–English legal translation is performed by MOJ-licensed legal translator Mohamed Khalid (personal MOJ Licence #688, valid until 8 March 2029; Al Qemma Legal Translation). The licence is held by the translator, not by OnlineTranslation.ae. We work with partners including Arkan Legal Translation and

Police stations, prosecution offices and courts in the UAE work in Arabic. When a complaint rests on messages, for example a threat, an unpaid debt agreed by chat, a landlord's promise about a deposit or an employer's instruction, the officer usually asks for the English messages in Arabic, stamped by a legal translator.

We do not summarise the chat or tidy the grammar. Slang, typing mistakes and abbreviations are translated as they were written, with a short bracketed note where a word cannot be carried across, so the Arabic says what the sender really said.

For a longer dispute file with contracts, emails and screenshots together, see the RDC dispute documents page; it is quoted after review.

How to recognise what we count as one screenshot

  • One phone screen captured once, with the contact name or number in the green or white header bar.
  • A long "scrolling" capture counts as the number of screen heights it covers.
  • Images, stickers and voice notes inside the chat are described in brackets; a photo of a document in the chat is a separate document.
  • The grey date chips ("Today", "Yesterday", a weekday) and "This message was deleted" lines are translated too.

What to send

  • The original screenshots straight from the phone gallery, not photos of the screen.
  • Their order, if the file names do not show it.
  • Which side of the chat is you, so the translation labels the parties correctly.
  • The authority or case number reference, if the officer gave you one.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about our translation services.

How much does it cost to translate WhatsApp screenshots into Arabic?

The standard price is AED 80 for up to two WhatsApp chat screenshots written in English, translated into Arabic by an MOJ-licensed translator and delivered as a stamped PDF. Longer chats are quoted after we count the screens. Express and urgent timing are not priced here; ask on WhatsApp and we confirm any amount before you pay.

Can I send an exported chat file instead of screenshots?

Yes. A .txt or .zip chat export is fine, but it is priced by length after review rather than at the two-screenshot price. Tell us which dates or messages the authority needs so we translate only that part.

How do you show who sent each message?

The Arabic keeps the left and right sides of the chat, the time on each bubble and the order of messages. Where a message is a photo, sticker, voice note or a deleted message, we add a short note in brackets instead of leaving a gap.

Is the translation suitable for a police report or a court file?

The translation is stamped and signed by an MOJ-licensed legal translator, which is the format Dubai Police, the courts and the Rental Dispute Center usually ask for. The receiving authority still decides what it accepts, so send its instruction with the screenshots.

What if some messages are already in Arabic or in another language?

Arabic lines are kept as written and marked as original text. Messages in a third language, such as Russian or Vietnamese, are quoted separately after review.
