Dubai Courts describes its system as three tiers: the courts of first instance, the Court of Appeal and the Court of Cassation, which is the highest court in the emirate. Abu Dhabi and the federal courts follow the same three-level structure. A case can therefore produce a first-instance judgment, an appeal judgment and a cassation judgment, and the client often needs all of them translated.

A judgment is written as continuous Arabic legal prose. It sets out the facts as the court found them, the arguments of each party, the reasoning, and finally the operative part, which is the part that binds the parties: who must pay what, what is dismissed, and who bears the court fees. Translating it well means keeping that structure intact, so a foreign judge or lawyer can find the operative part as quickly as an Arabic reader can.

Names, amounts and dates are the details that matter most to the reader abroad. We use the English spelling of each party's name from their passport or trade licence, carry every amount and date over exactly, and keep the case number in the court's own format so the translation can be matched to the original.

What a UAE judgment looks like

  • A heading with the court and its circuit, the case number with its year and case type, and the date of the hearing at which the judgment was issued.
  • The panel of judges and the clerk, followed by the parties and their roles: claimant and defendant at first instance, appellant and respondent on appeal.
  • The facts (الوقائع) and the reasoning (الأسباب), often running over several pages and citing articles of the Civil Procedure Law or other federal laws by number.
  • The operative part opening with فلهذه الأسباب, then the signatures of the clerk and the presiding judge and, on electronic copies, a verification code.

What to send

  • The full judgment as the court issued it, as a PDF or clear photos of every page.
  • Any appeal or cassation judgment, and the certificate that the judgment has become definitive, if you have them.
  • The English spelling of each party's name, as written in their passport or trade licence.
  • Where the translation is going, for example a foreign court, a bank or an immigration office.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about our translation services.

How much does it cost to translate a UAE court judgment?

We do not publish a fixed price for judgments, because one can be a two-page summary decision and another a forty-page commercial judgment with long reasoning, and we would rather confirm an honest figure for your own file. Send the whole judgment on WhatsApp. A real person on our team replies on WhatsApp within 1 to 3 minutes and then confirms the exact price for your file before you pay. The translation is done by an MOJ-licensed legal translator, and the page count is agreed with you first.

Why do people need a UAE judgment in English?

UAE onshore courts issue their judgments in Arabic. An English translation is usually needed when the judgment has to be read or used outside the UAE, for example to start recognition or enforcement proceedings in another country, to show a bank, an employer or an immigration office how a case ended, or to brief a foreign lawyer or a head office.

Do you translate the whole judgment or only the operative part?

We translate the whole judgment unless you tell us that the receiving body asked only for the operative part. The reasoning explains why the court decided as it did, and many foreign courts and lawyers want to read it. If you need a partial translation, tell us which sections and we mark clearly on the translation that it is an extract.

Can you translate the certificate that the judgment is final?

Yes. The certificate that the judgment has become definitive, an appeal or cassation judgment, and execution decisions are translated as separate documents in the same order. Send them together so names, case numbers and amounts are rendered the same way in every document.

Will the receiving court or authority accept the translation?

The court, authority or foreign body receiving the translation makes the acceptance decision. We translate the judgment exactly as the court wrote it. We do not give legal advice, interpret the judgment for you or contact the court.
